Project Description: For this project we studied satire and different methods and or devices people use to create satire. Then we chose our own topics where we created our Satire from. For my satire I decided to do a drawing about the Negative impacts of Social media. We also created Rube Goldberg Machines in our Physics class and incorporated our satire topic into the the RGM.
Project Reflection: My satirical piece is targeting all social media users. My message is explaining how the things we see show wealth, fame, and ideal looks for our society. The instagram models with these perfect bodies, many followers, and lots of money we see that we aspire to be isn't always achievable. The devices I used in my drawing are Irony and juxtaposition. Juxtaposition is shown because I am comparing that idea that social media affects our happiness and confidence because of the pressure we feel to look perfect and have nice things. Which relates to my second device, irony. Irony is shown by the way the girl in the drawing presents herself on social media versus how she really looks and feels. The most important thing I learned throughout this project is that Satire is used all the time and learning about the different devices people use to convey a message helps dive in deeper into a topic. I see this in my own project because at first glance it's just a simple drawing. But once you look closer and understand the meaning of it and understand the devices I incorporated into it. It brings on a deeper meaning other than Social media in general. satire plays an important role in our Society because its main goal is to raise people's awareness of Societal problems. It's effective because we use different devices to convey it and challenge people's perspective on the topic being discussed.
Imperialism Project
Project Description: For this project we were given a list of topics to choose from that had to do with imperialism in Africa. From there we did research on our topics. Mine for example the The Zimbabwe war of Independence. Then we began writing our oped's. We did critiques on ourselves, from our peers, and from our teachers. The second half of our project was to create a visual piece or cartoon that had to do with our essay.
